Tuesday Tip: Scrapbooking with Stampin' Up!

Today's tip is one on scrapbooking.
Ever find that a 12 x 12 layout is a little intimidating?
Here's a page that I demonstrated at a Stampin' Up! party this past weekend.
I find that if I begin with a 8 1/2 x 11 page and build from there; it is much easier. This went together quickly using the Bells and Boughs set from the Holiday Mini Catalog with some ribbon and Big Designer Buttons as accents.
Try using this scrap method next time that 12 x 12 looks a little too big...you'll have it put together before you know it! Leave a comment here if you have a question...Happy Stamping! ---Lisa

Tuesday Tip: Leaning Towers of Powders

Another organizational tip for you this week...
I have found this the easiest and neatest way to store and use my embossing powders and glitters. Notice in the photo that once again the labels have no uniformity, BUT all containers are labeled and all contain a plastic spoon. Really, really helps control flying glitter and powders.
Anyone have a better idea?

Tuesday Tip: Organization-My Way :)

24 hours left to sign up for my mailing list if you want the 12 Weeks of Christmas e-mails!

Anyone who has been in my craft room will probably laugh at this blog post :). Although it's not the neatest, I do know where everything is. I don't have a lot of fancy furniture or shelving units, but my "stuff" is organized...well, mostly. ;).
Today, I wanted to share how I store or "organize" my card stock.

Nothing special, just some of the 12 x 12 drawer units from the big box stores and most importantly "labeled". I have a drawer (or two) for each color collection...full sheets and and a drawer for each collection of scraps. The labeling is the kicker here.
Every scrap that I save has a place. There is no specific size for scraps that I save, but I do I have to clean out these drawers often. However, I have made cards completely from scraps and that is a great feeling! I also know exactly where to look for a specific color.

The labels are punched or cut pieces of large address labels. One day, I'll coordinate this look but for now, I'd rather be stamping! :)
How do you store your card stock? I'd love to hear your about what works for you!

Tuesday Tip: Textured Impressions Embossing Folders

Love the look of a textured card front?
Just a quick tip today when using the Textured Impressions Embossing Folders from Stampin' Up!
To emboss the entire front of a standard size, 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card, cut your card stock (8 1/2 x 11) on the short side in half at 4 1/4. This way, you can insert one end of the card into the folder with the remainder of the card extending beyond (as in the photo). Be sure to make the proper "sandwich"---Multipurpose Platform- Tab 1, Standard Cutting Pad, folder with card stock, the other Standard Cutting Pad---then roll it through! You'll have a beautiful textured card front.

Look for the Textured Impressions Folders on p.214 of the Idea Book and Catalog. These folders make beautiful impressions in a variety of styles. If you have any questions, let me know... I'm here to help!

Tuesday Tip: Taking Scrap-Worthy Photos

It's that time of year when families travel and take photos of their vacations to preserve the memory.
Today, I'd like to share a few tips that I have found helpful and also make great photos to add to scrapbook pages. I am no expert...these are just some tips that have worked for me.

1) Try to catch those candid moments...the kids interacting with others, a reunion embrace of a friends or family members, facial expressions of those experiencing the beauty of nature...

2) When taking shots of scenic views with others in the photo, have the subjects either to the right or left in your view finder rather than standing in front of the view.

3) It's fun to photograph your meals in a special restaurant. I remember taking shots of our fabulous desserts from Serendipity 3 in NYC (we ordered THREE so we could share and sample all of them). I then took another shot of the empty dishes as we finished. The time stamp was active on my camera and I kid you not...we devoured those desserts in a little over three minutes!!! Fun and delicious memory!

4) I find that I take way too many shots of the same scene! Be mindful of that.

5) If the locals are willing, take photos of and/or with them. I took photos of my daughters posing with one of New York City's finest, the hot dog vendor on Wall Street, the makeover artist in Macy's, the street vendors in Chinatown, and the bakers in the Buttercup Bake Shop.

I hope these tips give you a few ideas for your next vacation. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words!
