Fabulous Friday: Holiday Neutrals

Have you started thinking about your holiday cards? What color? What set? Traditional colors? Religious theme?
So many options...so little time! Well, not if you start now!
I love to play around with my sets and accessories before I actually decide which I'll duplicate. By that time, I have 20 or so one-of-a- kind cards I can send also. Love that!
This one is with my current color scheme fave...the neutrals. Growing up, I was a turquoise, pink, and purple girl, but now I have developed a very meaningful relationship with the neutrals. Ahhh...so calming. And, mind you, I know these aren't everyone's fancy so I PROMISE to give you a variety as we head into the season.

Lots of fun accessories used here with my Lovely as a Tree-Glimmer Brads, Champagne Glass Glitter, Espresso Taffeta Ribbon...Yum!

Inklings:
Paper lace next to ribbon made with Eyelet Border Punch and fibers broken down with Bone Folder. Scrap piece cut from Eyelet Border piece ( I trimmed excess) and ruffled behind oval sentiment.

Trendy Thursday: Grunge-ness a la Stampin' Up!

I love the grunge, worn, vintage look that is so popular with some very well known crafters so I decided to recreate the look with my Stampin' Up! products. I'll just try to walk you through my process I used to create this card...

  1. The base is Cajun Craze-119684 stamped with Medallion-115223 in Tea Stain Distressing Ink* and sponged with Cajun Craze Classic Ink-119671.
  2. The next layer up was a scrap piece of More Mustard-100946 which was also stamped with the Medallion---inked with Tea Stain Distressing Ink from the *Distressing Essentials Kit-118762 and lightly embossed with Gold embossing powder-109129.(Takes a little longer to dry than with VersaMark, but I got the look I wanted.)
  3. I roughed up one edge with my Cutter Kit-106958 and sponged the edges with Always Artichoke-105219, Cajun Craze, and Tea Stain Distressing Ink.
  4. I created my own tag by angling the edges of a piece of Very Vanilla-101650 and creating the tag hole with a 1/2" circle punch-119869 and a Crop-A-Dile-108362. I needed more contrast behind the tag so I used a piece of Always Artichoke-105119 and angled it the same as the tag. Tied a piece of Hemp Twine-100982 onto the tag.
  5. I used some Acrylic Gesso that I found in the art section of my local department store to stencil the flourish from Vintage Ornaments I-117580 and dried it a bit with my Heat Tool-100005 before proceeding. The gesso has a bit of texture to it when it dries and takes on a hint of the color you apply to it. Pretty cool...
  6. I sponged the tag with Always Artichoke, Cajun Craze, and More Mustard-103162 and finished by applying the Tea Stain.
  7. I found a lone silk flower left over from my Pretties Kit but you could use one of the Paper Daisies- 19243 from the Idea Book and Catalog. I pressed the flower into my VersaMark-102283 pad and holding it with tweezer, I embossed it in gold.
  8. I applied a little Two Way Glue-100425 to the flower and sprinkled on some Celery Fine Cosmo Glitter-108796. Then to grunge it up, I sprayed it with Log Cabin Smooch Spritz- 119921.
  9. The center brad is from the Hodgepodge Hardware Styled Silver-111325 embossed in gold. (It gets hot quick...use your tweezers!)
  10. The three tags were first stamped in VersaMark with images from Tiny Tags-w:118091, c:118592 and gold embossed. Then, punched with the Medium Jewelry Tag Punch-117190 and inked with all four colors mentioned previously. I attached each with a Mini Glue Dot-103683 beneath the flower. The tag was adhered to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals-104430.
So, there it is... step by step. Used lots of supplies and tools but had lots of fun! The trick here is just go for it! Give it a try and let me know if you have questions.
Here's to grungy goodness!---Lisa

Fabulous Friday: Fab Fabric from Stampin' Up!

The new fabric in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog is so versatile! While the color scheme coordinates with the holiday designer papers, the print pattern on the fabric lends itself to the every day project. Gotta love that!
On this card, I've used a strip of the Deck the Halls fabric (torn, to give it a frayed look) and I was really pleased with how easily it tied into a bow.
That big beautiful button is from the Big Designer Button collection--Deck the Halls--again coordinating with the fabric and the paper of the same name. Another versatile product...I'm in love! You'll be seeing these a lot...just wait!

ink and inspirations Fabulous Friday: Stampin' Up! Notably Ornate

Why is Friday fabulous? Because we are talking about the new Idea Book and Catalog from Stampin' Up! , a new fab set-Notably Ornate(117098-wood, 120142-clear)-, and p. 123 which is where I got the inspiration for this card!

The tag is a CASE (Copy And Share Everything) from that page in the catalog...just take a look! Oh, you don't have a catalog? Send me an email with your phone number--I'd like to talk to you!

My point is that yes, it is a catalog, but it is also an IDEA book and it is a wonderful source of inspiration!

I used a template from a previous tag that I had made to create this one from Whisper White cardstock(100730) and I used Cherry Cobbler(119669) and Early Espresso (119670) Classic Inks for the images. The designer layer is from Presto Patterns Specialty Paper (117175...gorgeous stuff!) inked with Cherry Cobbler. The Crumb Cake (120953) strip was punched with the Curly Label XL Punch(119851). I am going to try to make a video of how I did that soon! I hand cut the bird and just because images and it came together nicely! I used my Color Spritzer (107066) with my Crumb Cake marker (120967) to add a little more fabulous-ness to the tag. Love this set!

Email me ( lisa@inkandinspirations.com) if you have questions or if you'd like to talk about that new catalog :)!

Other products used:

Early Espresso card stock(119686), Hemp Twine (100982), Paper Piercer(116631), Mat Pack(105826), 1/2" circle punch( 119869), Crop A Dile( 108362), Rhinestone Brad (113144)

ink and inspirations: Stampin' Up! Vintage Vogue

Often times, my starting point for cards comes from rummaging through bits of previously stamped pieces or cut and layered cardstock that was set aside for whatever reason.  Such was the case with this card.  I found this layered piece of Soft Suede and Not Quite Navy and went from there.  It finally came together about midnight and so here it is...

Lots of embossing and use of craft ink and rough edges...fun stuff.  Try creating a card starting with a piece that you had set aside.  You might just find inspiration in something that just didn't work before.  Have fun stamping and creating!

Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Sneak Peek:Mostly Vintage

I just love stenciling! This great stencil,Mostly Vintage(118877) from the soon to debut Summer Mini Catalog on May 1st, is awesome and also includes a mask for a reverse effect...really special!

I used three colors of ink here: Night of Navy(102977), Taken With Teal(103257), and Bermuda Bay(115655). Using sponge daubers, I lightly dabbed ink over the stencil until I got the intensity and color effect that I wanted. Edges of the Whisper White(100730) card stock were sponged with all three colors also. Base of the card is in Night of Navy(100867) and with a Bermuda Bay(115317) layer to set off the main image. I added a Square Ice Rhinestone Brad(109113) in the center for added interest and a bit of bling. Sentiment is from the ever versatile, Define Your Life(114950).

Ever tried stenciling on your cards?...now is the time! Order this stencil from my online store beginning May 1st and look for more sneak peeks soon! You're gonna love it!

Stampin' Up! Vintage Butterfly: Beautiful Background Stamps

Hi all!
I just love using background stamps, don't you? Bold or subtle, it adds so much interest to your cards or layouts.
Here's a card I made for a friend using the Stampin' Up! Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die(114507) and stamped with one of my favorite backgrounds, En Francais(109521) along with Vintage Vogue(117690-wood, 118598-clear), and Tiny Tags(118091-wood, 118592-clear).
How about a little step by step?...
  • Crushed Curry (5 1/2 x 4 1/4"), stamped with En Francais in Crushed Curry.
  • Card edges distressed with Cutter Kit and sponged with Soft Suede Classic Ink.
  • Layers of Soft Suede(3 1/2 x 3") and Textured Rich Razzleberry( 3 1/4 x 2 3/4") are distressed and sponged with Soft Suede Classic.
  • Rich Razzleberry Classic Ink used to stamp border floral image from Vintage Vogue on the Rich Razzleberry piece.
  • Cut Beautiful Butterfly with Big Shot(113439) from Naturals Ivory card stock.
  • Ink En Francais background again with Crushed Curry Classic Ink. Then, take your Soft Suede Classic Ink pad and apply sparingly directly over the Crushed Curry ink. You do not want full coverage here...just enough to give an aged, vintage look. Stamp your butterfly.
  • Using your Stampin' Write Markers (Rich Razzleberry and Soft Suede) to apply ink to the floral vine image from Vintage Vogue and stamp on the butterfly over the En Francais background.
  • Sponge edges of butterfly with Soft Suede.
  • Apply a layer of Crystal Effects over the stamped butterfly. It will take a while to dry but really makes the colors pop and is worth the effort!
  • Cut a slit in the upper fold of the card base with your Craft and Hobby Blade. This will allow you to slide your ribbon through it. I used about 15" of Vanilla 5/8" Satin Ribbon.
  • Stamp images from Tiny Tags and punch with Medium Jewelry Tag Punch(117190). Pierce a hole in each tag with your Paper Piercing Tool.
  • Use Linen Thread(104199) to attach tags to your ribbon. I placed the ends of the strands of Linen Thread on the ribbon before I tied the knot and this secured these tags to the ribbon.
  • Complete card by adding butterfly to layers and then this piece to the card.
If you need any of these supplies, visit my Online Store.
Let me know in the comment section if you liked this step by step. If so, I'll try to feature a card once a week with the instructions this way.
Have a great day!--Lisa

Stampin' Up! Eggcellent for Cards

Hi all!
Good Tuesday morning to everyone!
In the Occasions Mini there is a really cute little product called the Eggcellent Eggs Kit (117179) that was designed to use to decorate eggs for Easter. Really cute! But, I decided to try using these elements on a card and this is the end result.
Now, I really think the pastel colors of these elements are beautiful, but I had to try giving this card a more vintage/ distressed look so I pulled out my Soft Suede Classic ink and my Stampin' Sponge and went to work. The flowers are constructed from little die cuts in the kit that I layered and embellished with self-adhesive rhinestones also from the kit. Rub ons are also included and I applied these above the two die cut strips which were designed to wrap around the eggs. Kraft Taffeta Ribbon and a Chit Chat Rub On completes the look.
It's not too early to make those Easter cards! Try out one of these kits on your projects for Easter!

Stampin' Up! Vintage Vogue: Distressed Style

Hi everyone!

I felt the need to get really into my ink last night and this is the result using the Vintage Vogue and En Francais Stamp sets. I started with a Soft Suede background and stamped the floral flourish in VersaMark, clear embossed, and then sponged Soft Suede Classic Ink all over to get an aged look. You can't see both but there are two Jumbo Eyelets set on the left side to thread my Soft Suede Grosgrain (back side of the polka dot).
On the main panel, I stamped En Francais in Soft Suede and then stamped the large bloom from Vintage Vogue in VersaMark and clear embossed. Using a combination of Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, and Dusty Durango Classic Inks, I sponged over the entire piece using the Emboss Resist technique. See how the script is visible through the stamped flowers?...love this technique! I stamped another of this same bloom on a scrap piece of Whisper White and used a combination of all three inks again to create this as an embellishment. The Corduroy button is from th e Summer Sun collection. I just brushed it over my Crushed Curry ink pad and brushed Dusty Durango around the edges. The Scallop Trim Border( from the Sale-A-Bration brocure) is in Crushed Curry and inked with Soft Suede. Butterflies cut and dry embossed with the Beautiful Wings Embosslit and cut with the Big Shot then inked with Soft Suede.
This card was a lot of fun to make! Try using your inks by sponging and combining colors. Soft Suede is a GREAT color to use in your vintage or distressed projects. You'll love it!

Stampin' Up! I {Heart} Hearts : Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
I wanted to share this card I made for my sweetheart of a husband using the I{Heart} Hearts set. I have mentioned before that he really likes my distressed-look, earthy cards so that's what I used for inspiration for this one.
The base is Old Olive cardstock topped with a layer of designer paper from the Welcome Neighbor pad which is one of the free offerings during the Sale-A-Bration promotion with a $50 product order. The Wood Sheet is cut with the Big Shot and the Top Note Bigz Die and stamped with hearts from the set in Soft Suede. The circle is cut from Vellum Cardstock with my Circle Scissors Plus and inked with Old Olive Classic Ink. The three hearts were stamped on Very Vanilla Cardstock in Old Olive, Dusty Durango, and Night of Navy Classic Inks. I added two buttons threaded with Hemp Twine as an accent. The sentiment is from Chit Chat Rub Ons.

All supplies from Stampin' Up! and can be purchased HERE.

Hope you enjoy your day with your loved ones! ---Lisa

Inklings:
  • Chit Chat (111804)and Chat Room(117199) Rub Ons are awesome to have on hand for your cards. There are tons of sentiments in each set...a sheet in Whisper White and an identical one in Chocolate Chip in each pack. A great buy at $10.95!
  • I used a Stampin' Sponge to ink the edges of the hearts, Top Note, card base. Really adds to that distressed, vintage look.
