Trendy Thursday: Grunge-ness a la Stampin' Up!

I love the grunge, worn, vintage look that is so popular with some very well known crafters so I decided to recreate the look with my Stampin' Up! products. I'll just try to walk you through my process I used to create this card...

  1. The base is Cajun Craze-119684 stamped with Medallion-115223 in Tea Stain Distressing Ink* and sponged with Cajun Craze Classic Ink-119671.
  2. The next layer up was a scrap piece of More Mustard-100946 which was also stamped with the Medallion---inked with Tea Stain Distressing Ink from the *Distressing Essentials Kit-118762 and lightly embossed with Gold embossing powder-109129.(Takes a little longer to dry than with VersaMark, but I got the look I wanted.)
  3. I roughed up one edge with my Cutter Kit-106958 and sponged the edges with Always Artichoke-105219, Cajun Craze, and Tea Stain Distressing Ink.
  4. I created my own tag by angling the edges of a piece of Very Vanilla-101650 and creating the tag hole with a 1/2" circle punch-119869 and a Crop-A-Dile-108362. I needed more contrast behind the tag so I used a piece of Always Artichoke-105119 and angled it the same as the tag. Tied a piece of Hemp Twine-100982 onto the tag.
  5. I used some Acrylic Gesso that I found in the art section of my local department store to stencil the flourish from Vintage Ornaments I-117580 and dried it a bit with my Heat Tool-100005 before proceeding. The gesso has a bit of texture to it when it dries and takes on a hint of the color you apply to it. Pretty cool...
  6. I sponged the tag with Always Artichoke, Cajun Craze, and More Mustard-103162 and finished by applying the Tea Stain.
  7. I found a lone silk flower left over from my Pretties Kit but you could use one of the Paper Daisies- 19243 from the Idea Book and Catalog. I pressed the flower into my VersaMark-102283 pad and holding it with tweezer, I embossed it in gold.
  8. I applied a little Two Way Glue-100425 to the flower and sprinkled on some Celery Fine Cosmo Glitter-108796. Then to grunge it up, I sprayed it with Log Cabin Smooch Spritz- 119921.
  9. The center brad is from the Hodgepodge Hardware Styled Silver-111325 embossed in gold. (It gets hot quick...use your tweezers!)
  10. The three tags were first stamped in VersaMark with images from Tiny Tags-w:118091, c:118592 and gold embossed. Then, punched with the Medium Jewelry Tag Punch-117190 and inked with all four colors mentioned previously. I attached each with a Mini Glue Dot-103683 beneath the flower. The tag was adhered to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals-104430.
So, there it is... step by step. Used lots of supplies and tools but had lots of fun! The trick here is just go for it! Give it a try and let me know if you have questions.
Here's to grungy goodness!---Lisa
